Raymond P. Gailitis, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Raymond Gailitis, M.D., F.A.C.S.,
is a fellowship trained refractive and corneal transplant surgeon
who specializes in laser vision correction. He is co-founder
of The Center for LASIK, which is dedicated to state-of-the-art
vision correction surgery.
Dr Gailitis is also the first
surgeon in South Florida certified by the prestigious Council
for Refractive Surgery Quality Assurance.
Refractive Surgery Experience
Dr. Gailitis has been performing
refractive surgery in Southeast Florida for the past 11 years.
He was one of the first surgeons in the region to perform LASIK
and the first surgeon in South Florida to perform the Intacs
procedure. Dr. Gailitis is also one of the few surgeons in the
country certified to implant the Intra Ocular Contact Lens (ICL).
As a certified excimer laser instructor for VISX, Inc. and LADARVISION,
he has trained many physicians in laser vision correction. He
is among a few select doctors chosen by VISX as a mentor to other
physicians learning to perform LASIK. Dr. Gailitis teaches LASIK
nationally and internationally. He introduced LASIK to the Baltic
Countries in Eastern Europe.
Dr. Gailitis has been featured
on the nationally televised program "Ground Floor"
performing laser vision correction. He was also interviewed on
Channel 4 CBS medical news discussing hyperopic LASIK. He has
served as a radio consultant on LASIK for KWRE in St. Louis,
KLIC in Minnesota, the Louisiana Radio Network, and WWNN on the
Steve Kane show. Dr. Gailitis is the author of numerous articles
on lasers and refractive surgery and holds several patents in
the field. In 1991 he published one of the seminal articles on
a new laser to perform refractive surgery. He is an author of
the popular book entitled "LASIK Vision Correction".
Dr. Gailitis has performed several
thousand LASIK procedures and is certified on four different
excimer laser systems.

Personal
Dr. Gailitis has done charitable
work in Eastern Europe and has served as visiting professor on
project ORBIS teaching doctors internationally. He lives in Fort
Lauderdale with his wife Sonia, son Dane and daughter Marissa.
Dr. Gailitis enjoys excellent vision after his own LASIK procedure.

Randy Burks, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Burks is the senior partner
with Ophthalmology Consultants, The Center For LASIK. He is a
board certified, fellowship trained ophthalmologist, who specializes
in laser vision correction, small incision cataract surgery,
and eye plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Burk is also
certified by the Council for Refractive Surgery Quality Assurance.
He joined Ophthalmology Consultants in 1989 after completing
twelve years of active duty service in the United States Air
Force as an F-16 Flight Surgeon and Assistant Clinical Professor
of Ophthalmology.
Surgical Experience
Dr. Burks has been performing
refractive surgical procedures for over fifteen years. He was
a pioneer in the South Florida area combining refractive surgery
with small incision, no stitch, cataract surgery, helping patients
see and read without glasses. He treats patients from all over
the world who have complex cataract and refractive problems.
When LASIK was approved, Dr. Burks was in the first group of
surgeons in South Florida to be trained and certified. He is
now a certified instructor on the Alcon LADARVISION laser. Dr.
Burks was also the first surgeon in South Florida to perform
LASEK. This refractive procedure helps patients who are not good
candidates for LASIK achieve the same great visual results. In
addition to his expertise in refractive surgery, Dr. Burks is
a fellowship trained eye plastic and reconstructive specialist.
He performs cosmetic procedures as well as treating facial cancers,
deformities, and injuries.
Dr. Burks and Dr. Gailitis are
currently engaged in research on procedures to treat the loss
of reading vision in people over forty.
Dr. Burks has been featured on
several local television broadcasts discussing implantable lenses
for patients with extremely high degrees of near and farsightedness
who are not good candidates for LASIK. He is also an author of
the book "What Every Patient Needs To Know About LASIK"
